Verizon, Sprint pay USD 158 mln to settle 'cramming' probes

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Enforcement Bureau announced that Verizon Wireless will pay USD 90 million and Sprint Corporation USD 68 million to settle "mobile cramming" investigations. The FCC probe revealed that the companies billed customers millions of dollars in unauthorized third-party premium text messaging services. With the conclusion of the investigation into Verizon Wireless and Sprint, the FCC, working together with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and states' attorneys general, has brought a total of USD 353 million in
