Verizon to deploy 400 small cells in San Francisco

Verizon Wireless plans to deploy 400 pint-sized transmitters known as small cells across San Francisco's SOMA, Financial District, Market Street and North Beach neighbourhoods, Gigaom reported. Small cells are mounted on utility and light poles, and carry the same amount of capacity as a big macro cell, but that capacity is concentrated in a much smaller area, in Verizon's case, a 250 to 500-foot radius.
