Viasat and Claro in dispute over Brazilian satellite position

Monday 31 August 2020 | 10:40 CET | News
Viasat and Claro are in a dispute regarding the right to market a satellite service on the same orbital position (70 degrees West) in the Ka-Band, according to information published by Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and reported by Valor Economico. Viasat has requested the regulator's approval to operate the ViaSat-3 satellite in Brazil, claiming to have the ITU's preference for the use of the orbital position. For its part, Claro, through the former Star One, had won the right at an auction held by Anatel in 2011 to operate a Brazilian satellite in the same location.
