Vimeo told to pay Mediaset EUR 8.5 mln in damages

An Italian court has ordered online video platform Vimeo to pay Mediaset-owned broadcaster RTI (Reti Televisive Italiane) a total of EUR 8.5 million in damages for having illegally hosted and failed to take down content owned by the broadcaster, reports Corriere delle Comunicazioni. The Rome court described Vimeo's "active hosting" of the TV programmes as tantamount to a "video on demand service" and a breach of RTI's copyright.
