Vodacom buys strategic stake in Safaricom for ZAR 35 bln

Vodacom Group said it has agreed to acquire a strategic stake in Kenya's Safaricom held by Vodafone Group. Subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals, Vodacom will fund the acquisition of a 34.94 percent stake in Safaricom by issuing 226.8 million new ordinary shares. The company said the transaction is set to further enhance its position as a leading African mobile communication company.
