Vodacom KwaZulu Natal region boosts security measures to combat vandalism

Wednesday 28 October 2020 | 14:51 CET | News
Vodacom says it has seen a dramatic rise in base station vandalism and battery theft in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and is now soliciting help from councilors and chiefs to stop the destruction of its infrastructure. It has been registering 70 cases per month in the province since the start of 2020, which translates to a monthly loss of ZAR 6.5 million from vandalism, or a cumulative ZAR 80 million per annum. Vodacom is now investing ZAR 20 million in container claddings and surveillance cameras, among other things.
