Vodacom, MTN seek to buy Orange Uganda operations – report

Vodacom Group and MTN Group plan to negotiate the possible acquisition of Orange Uganda, according to the Daily Monitor. Orange's strength in Uganda is in the provision of data services, where it identified a niche that has been its major source of revenue. Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub was quoted by Bloomberg in late 2013 as saying the operator intends to expand its footprint in at least three new countries with a population exceeding 10 million by the end of 2014 through the acquisition of local operators.
