Vodacom South Africa reaches out-of-court settlement in privacy violation case

Vodacom South Africa said it has reached an out-of-court settlement with Paul O'Sullivan after handing over his mobile phone records without his permission, reports Daily Maverick. It claimed that Vodacom operator paid ZAR 1.25 million to settle with O'Sullivan, after giving his records to underworld boss Radovan Krejcir's legal team. In May 2017, Vodacom spokesperson Byron Kennedy said the company has released "certain information under a lawfully issued subpoena", as it was obliged to do in terms of Section 179 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
