Vodafone buys naming rights to Sol metro station in Madrid

Thursday 13 June 2013 | 13:46 CET | News
Vodafone has decided to sponsor the Puerta del Sol metro station in Madrid, leading to a change in the name of the station to Vodafone Sol. As a result, the municipal coffers will receive EUR 1 million per year for the name change. The Spanish capital has twelve metro lines and has had some financial problems in keeping active its public transport system. However, there has been opposition to the move, with some accusing the administration of Madrid of selling a piece of the city.
