Vodafone eyes NBN Co's network for regional mobile backhaul

Vodafone Australia is in talks with NBN Co, the company rolling out the National Broadband Network, on using its network for backhaul to provide mobile broadband services in rural areas. Vodafone has no plans to upgrade data speeds beyond 3G levels on its regional 900 MHz spectrum but will focus on improving speeds in capital cities and major population zones. Vodafone Hutchison Australia will use its 850 MHz network to offer 3.5G services alongside its 1800 MHz 4G network, The Australian reports citing the company's public policy chief Matthew Lobb.
