Vodafone Ireland joins forces with Cisco to improve 3G traffic flow

Vodafone Ireland is carrying out a trial to assess the performance of machine learning algorithms within the Cisco Centralized Self Optimising Network (C-SON). The use of machine learning aims to predict the flow of 3G traffic and automatically re-balance the traffic load among neighbouring cell sites when necessary. Initial results from the trial show an average 6 percent improvement in mobile download speeds and lower interference at cell sites.
