Watchdog probes Vodacom South Africa over abuse of dominance in govt contract

Thursday 5 October 2017 | 09:36 CET | News
South Africa's Competition Commission has begun investigating Vodacom Group for possible abuse of dominance, after it won an exclusive contract with the National Treasury to be sole provider of mobile telecommunication services to the government, BusinessTech reported. In March 2016, the treasury put a contract for the supply and delivery of mobile services to National and Provincial Government Departments out to tender for the period 15 September 2016 to 31 August 2020. Vodacom was the preferred supplier after the other bidders were eliminated at different phases of the process.
