Wearables shipments rise 7.3% in Q3, boosted by the rise of smart wearables - IDC

The number of wearable shipped worldwide in the third quarter ros 7.3 percent to 26.3 million units, with the rise of smart wearables offsetting declines at basic wearables, according to the latest study from the IDC. Smart wearables, like smartwatches from Apple, Fossil and Samsung, can run third party applications; basic wearables, which gave the sector its initial boost, cannot. These include devices from Fitbit, Xiaomi and Huawei. IDC also noted a change in where devices are being sold. Traditional tech outlets still play a huge role in distribution but companies like Fossil and Movado
