Web, smartphones part of children's daily lives - survey

Most German children are online by the age of 10, and most have their own smartphone by 12, according to the 'Children and Youth 3.0' study by industry group Bitkom. The study shows that 39 percent of 6-7 year olds and 76 percent of 8-9 year olds use the internet. The majority (94%) of 10-11 year olds are online, spending on average 22 minutes a day using the internet. This rises to 115 minutes for 16-18 year olds. It also found that one fifth of 6-7 year olds use smartphones, with 85 percent of 12-13 year olds having their own smartphone. For older youths, smartphones are the main way to get
