WhatsApp starts campaign in India to stop spread of fake news

Facebook's WhatsApp messaging platform has published advertisements in key Indian newspapers to tackle the spread of misinformation. The initiative aims to reduce fake messages that prompted mob lynchings, Reuters reports. India is WhatsApp's biggest market with more than 200 million users. Beatings and deaths triggered by false incendiary messages in India caused a public relations nightmare, sparking calls from authorities for immediate action.
