The White House has come out against proposed legislation in Congress aimed at requiring ISPs to block foreign websites offering counterfeit or pirated goods. Congress is debating several pieces of legislation on the issue. Among these the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) has drawn the most opposition from the internet industry, which claims the legislation could lead to censorship and curbs on online innovation.
