Wireless broadband grows to over 400,000 users in Italy

There are more than 400,000 active users for wireless broadband alternatives such as Hiperlan and Wimax in Italy. These services offer performance and costs similar to ADSL 7 Mbps, according to a report by Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore. Such services cover much of Italy and are offered by companies such as Linkem, Aria, WaveMax, Mandarin and Ngi. The first two have coverage from north to south, the third is in Emilia Romagna and Marche, Mandarin is active in Sicily, and Ngi is expanding from the north towards Lazio. The operators are using Wimax on licensed frequencies, except for Ngi, which
