World Bank says Africa needs USD 15.5 bln to boost GSM

The World Bank has said that all mobile telephone players in Africa would need about USD 15.5 billion to enhance GSM coverage across the continent. A report released by the bank said the African GSM market is capable of expanding beyond its present status if it gets the funding it needs. The report by Mark Williams, Rebecca Mayer and Michael Minges said Africa would need USD 15.5 billion between 2007 and 2015 to expand the GSM network across the continent. The report said Nigeria was one of the countries with the highest investment between 1998 and 2008, with an estimate figure of USD 12.7
