World tablet sales drop 14.7% to 39.6 mln units in Q1

Worldwide tablet shipments declined 14.7 percent to 39.6 million in the first quarter, compared with 46.4 million units in the first quarter of 2015, according to IDC. Slate tablets continued their decline and accounted for 87.6 percent of all shipments in the quarter, while detachable saw triple-digit annual growth to over 4.9 million units. Apple tablet shipments fell 18.8 percent to 10.3 million units, followed by Samsung, down 28.1 percent to 6 million units, with Amazon and Lenovo tied for third with 2.2 million units.
