Xirlink has announced the Video Phone videoconferencing product which delivers compression and audio via the Universal Serial Bus (USB) as well as video. The main advantage of using the USB is that it allows up to 12 Mbits/sec bandwidth for better quality real-time video image capture, vs 1 Mbits/sec with a serial port. Also, delivering audio via the USB reduces the cost of videoconferencing sa it removes the need for a headphone and microphone plug-in.
