YouTube wins French court decision

A Paris court has dismissed a 2008 lawsuit filed by French TV channel TF1 against YouTube claiming that it had commercial rights to some extracts of TV shows, films and sports events that were posted on the video-sharing website, Les Echos reports. The court ordered TF1, which was seeking EUR 150 million in damages, to pay EUR 80,000 in court costs. The court found that TF1 did not demonstrate having rights to some of the programmes, and for those where it did, mainly sports events, YouTube had the status of a host and was not a priori responsible for posted videos, only internet users were.
