Zimbabwean government makes slow progress in merging ISPs and regulators

Tuesday 21 July 2020 | 10:19 CET | News
Zimbabwean state-backed ISPs Powertel, Africom and ZARNet are to be merged into a single entity, ITWeb reported. Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube provided an update on the process during his mid-budget review statement and said merging them has been painstakingly slow. Powertel and Africom are both internet access providers, while ZARnet was formed by the Information Ministry to provide ICT to government schools and tertiary institutions. It currently holds a 60 percent equity stake in Telecel Zimbabwe on behalf of the government.
