Zimbabwean mobile money transactions rise 11.5% to USD 1.17 bln in Q1

Zimbabwean mobile money cash-in transactions rose 11.5 percent to USD 1.17 billion in the first quarter of 2019 from USD 1.05 billion in Q4, said the Postal Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz). It said EcoCash processed 99.4 percent of the total value of transactions, Telecash processed 0.1 percent and OneMoney, 0.5 percent.

The EcoCash platform is run by Econet Wireless. Cash-outs dropped by 5 percent to USD 795.45 million in Q1 from USD 837.76 million in the previous quarter. There was an overall growth in active mobile money subscriptions at every operator of 5.2 percent to 6.68 million from 2018's fourth quarter figure of 6.35 million.
