Houten, The Netherlands, 30 July 2015 - Smartphones and tablets are no longer just for young people or business users; the mobile devices are increasingly popular across the entire population. To understand better the growing adoption of these devices, Telecompaper is introducing TP Basics, concise quarterly overviews of smartphone and tablet ownership in the Netherlands. The insightful data is targeted at businesses and organisations selling smartphones and tablets, developing apps or using mobile devices to keep in touch with customers.

The first edition of TP Basics focuses on the differences in smartphone ownership between men and women, across age groups and among different levels of education. The data shows that for 82 percent of the Dutch, their most-used phone is a smartphone. This is up from 64 percent two years ago. Growth is coming mainly in older age groups (50+), as already almost 90 percent or more of people in the age groups under 50 have smartphones. The percentage is highest among teens, at 97 percent.

In addition to age, education is also a factor in whether or not someone has a smartphone. Only 76 percent of those with a lower education have smartphones, compared to 85 percent of people with a mid- or high-level education. There is no difference in penetration between the mid- and high-level (HAVO, MBO and higher) groups.

TP Basics will be published twice per quarter, once on smartphones and once on tablets. The data overviews are free to download from the Telecompaper website, at this link. One-time free registration is required. As soons as a new edition of TB Basics is published, you will be informed over email.
