This research brief reviews the market introduction of Nokia N-Gage, and the success of Nokia so far in entering the highly competitive portable games market. Although Nokia shipped one million N-Gage game decks; sales of N-Gage are disappointing, and the outlook is worrisome, as Nokia has one year left to reach its six million target. With a dropping growth rate, and facing new competition from the new portable devices of Nintendo and Sony, mobile gaming as a future revenue source for Nokia, might run dry. From the start the N-Gage lacked a competitive price tag, and user friendliness was low. Also the target market of 18-35 ages is not the segment turning in the biggest revenue. However Nokia is committed to support the N-Gage at least until November 2005.
