Recently T-Mobile acquired Orange Netherlands, including Orange Broadband. Until now T-Mobile has followed a ‘mobile only’ strategy, but in the coming months the company will need to consider its options. The stark division between fixed and mobile operators is disappearing, as mobile operators are looking for new revenue streams from fixed-line services. But the Dutch broadband market is highly competitive and acquisition cost for new customers are up, while average revenue from broadband access will come down. One problem with the Orange acquisition is that the broadband division, Orange Breedband, has lost customer in five consecutive quarters. Perhaps T-Mobile might be able turn the tide, as mobile customers appear to prefer same brand for broadband services.
