Iraqi government prepares to replace Korek Telecom with new state-backed operator

Iraq says it has finalised all legal and regulatory steps to shut down telecom operator Korek, clearing the way for a new national mobile carrier to boost market competition, Shafaq News reported. Communications and Media Commission (CMC) chairman Baligh Abu Kallal said the regulator finalised the Korek file in strict compliance with the law, safeguarding state interests and restoring investor confidence in Iraq's telecommunications sector.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says thirteen states have fully waived Right of Way (RoW) charges, while sixteen others have adopted the National Economic Council (NEC) recommended flat rate of NGN 145 per linear metre, Techeconomy reported. South African fibre network operator (FNO) Openserve has entered the gigabit market by bringing out its first consumer 1 Gbps fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) products, MyBroadband reported. Eredivisie Media & Marketing has extended its distribution agreement with Odido, so the Dutch operator can continue to show the ESPN channels and top Dutch football.
