OCA selects Tencent as official esports technology partner

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and Tencent Esports have signed a 10-year partnership deal, establishing Tencent as the OCA's Official Esports Technology Partner. This agreement transitions OCA and Tencent from event-specific support to a 'system co-construction' model focused on developing unified technologies, standards, and ecosystems for the region. Tencent also reports that Yati Zhang, director of Tencent Esports, has been appointed as the OCA esports manager.

Vodafone to build 340 km subsea cable system in Greece

Vodafone has announced that its Carrier Services unit will deploy a subsea optical fibre cable system in Greece, linking Crete with the mainland. Vodafone says work has started on the new subsea fibre cable, called the Thetis Express, with the marine survey already underway. The entire system will comprise two marine segments of 129 and 163 km, plus terrestrial connections across the island of Milos and the end points on Crete and in Athens.

Samsung's profit triples on AI-driven memory demand

Samsung Electronics said it delivered a record operating profit in the fourth quarter of 2025, as strong demand for memory chips used in AI servers and tighter supply conditions lifted prices and earnings. The company reported operating profit of KRW 20.07 trillion (USD 13.9 billion) for the October–December period, more than tripling from KRW 6.49 trillion won a year earlier and exceeding its previous quarterly record of KRW 17.6 trillion set in 2018.

Dutch parliament backs new limits on door-to-door sales

The lower house of the Dutch parliament has passed a motion calling for an end to door-to-door sales. A large majority supports government efforts to limit the commercial practice, which has been widely employed by telecom operators during the FTTH roll-out. Complaints of aggressive sales tactics lead already to government proposals for new regulations. The parliament wants consumers to have more certainty and not be bothered as much, with exceptions only for charity campaigns.

Orange France has reached a new milestone in the shutdown of its copper network, confirming further progress in its roadmap towards fibre-only connectivity across its terrestrial infrastructure. Rostelecom expands networks in Astrakhan, Kaliningrad, Murmansk regions

Russian national operator Rostelecom has deployed LTE base stations in four villages in the Astrakhan region, after building 11 km of fibre backhaul there. The works was carried out under the federal programme on elimination of the digital divide, and the operator has already deployed 21 LTE base stations in the region under the programme. In 2025, Rostelecom deployed 19 LTE base stations in the Kaliningrad region as well.

Poland reaches 11 mln digital IDs on mCitizen app

Poland's Ministry of Digitisation announced that the number of digital IDs issued on the mCitizen (mObywatel) mobile application has exceeded 11 million. The number increased by 2.4 million in the past 12 months. The number of digital driver's licences registered on the application totals 6.2 million. Twenty new services have become available on the application within the past year.

Tele2 Latvia's revenues up 6% in Q4

Tele2 reported revenues in Latvia of SEK 546 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, up by 6 percent on an organic basis year-on-year.  End-user service revenues grew by 6 percent in local currency, while mobile service revenues amounted to SEK 376 million, up by 5 percent. Fixed service revenues soared by 174 percent to SEK 3 million. Incomes from sales of end-user devices totaled SEK 129 million, down from SEK 133 million in the fourth quarter of 2024.

TelCables Europe targets EUR 15 million revenue by 2030

TelCables Europe, a new subsidiary of Angola Cables, has set a goal to generate EUR 7 million in revenue within its initial years of operation in Portugal, with a target of EUR 15 million by 2030, CEO Samuel Carvalho told Expresso.pt. Polish wholesale operator Polski Swiatlowod Otwarty (PSO) has started deployment of a fibre-optic network in the town of Slupca in the Greater Poland region. Work is carried out with the help of EU funding. The municipal administration announced that the operator Play, controlled by Iliad, will provide services on this network.

Vodafone Spain to connect 210 Galician rural localities

Vodafone Spain (Zegona) has reached an agreement with the Galician regional government (Xunta de Galicia) to connect 210 isolated rural communities with a total of over 5,000 residents to mobile networks. A total of EUR 10.6 million will be invested to build 68 towers in 48 municipalities across the four Galician provinces.

AT&T Mexico reported a 20.6 percent year on year rise in operating revenues to USD 1.3 billion in the final quarter of 2025, attributed to the favourable impact of foreign exchange rates as well as growth in postpaid subscribers and higher ARPU.
