Telenor spins off Connexion as 50-50 joint venture with investment firm Verdane to exploit IoT market growth

Telenor has announced that it will spin off Telenor Connexion as a 50-50 joint venture worth SEK 7.5 billion with Verdane, a buyout firm that invests in businesses fostering digitisation and decarbonisation. The deal will realise value from Telenor Connexion's "strong" market position and provide it with access to long-term growth capital. The parties expect to complete the transaction during 2026, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Proximus hires new CFO from Agfa

Fiona Lam is joining Belgian operator Proximus as its new CFO from September. She replaces Mark Reid, who left at the end of January, while Nicolas Gaertner serves on an interim basis. Lam comes from Belgian company Agfa-Gevaert, where she has worked as CFO since October 2024. Before that she was CFO at Neways Electronics and Punch Powertrain, and held positions at Philips Lighting and Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong.

Xavier Niel, the founder and chairman of Iliad, has sold his stake in the Belgian operator Proximus, according to a stock market filing by his company Saxo Holding. The stake was last declared at 6.61 percent of Proximus shares in October 2025, but has now fallen to less than 0.1 percent.

Zain Group said its revenue grew by 6 percent year-on-year to KWD 569 million in the first quarter. EBITDA also rose 6 percent, to KWD 182 million, reflecting an EBITDA margin of 32 percent. Apple and Google have started supporting end-to-end encryption for messages sent between their mobile platforms. Part of the Rich Communication Services (RCS) format, this replaces traditional SMS with more secure and private messages. Korea Telecom (KT) reported consolidated revenue of KRW 6,778.4 billion for the first quarter of 2026, down one percent YoY. Operating profit fell 29.9 percent to KRW 482.7 billion. South Korea's Naver Cloud has launched a fully managed serverless database service designed to optimise computing resources automatically based on usage patterns.
