Kenya's CA sets new technical specifications for phone, ICT gadget manufacturers

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has announced technical specifications for mobile phones and other communication gadgets manufacturing to enhance consumer safety and network reliability. CA director general David Mugonyi said in a public notice that all individuals, firms or organisations intending to sell, import or use mobile devices must now follow the updated technical standards. He said the specifications will be used during the type approval process for mobile devices meant for sale and use

Slovak MVNO Tesco Mobile has introduced a new promotion to its prepaid customers. Customers are offered a EUR 2 discount for purchases in Tesco stores for each top-up of their mobile balances starting from EUR 10. A special voucher will be available on the mobile application Tesco Mobile.

Bell sells land mobile radio networks business to Motorola Solutions

Motorola Solutions Canada Networks, a Motorola Solutions company, has signed a deal to acquire the land mobile radio networks service business of Bell Mobility, the mobile services subsidiary of Bell Canada and BCE, for CAD 675 million. The deal will close in Q4, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, BCE said.

French telecom regulator Arcep said that the IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) model had been adopted by a limited proportion of enterprises in 2025. According to the annual 'Novascope' study carried out by Enov, the vast majority of companies with 500 to 4,999 employees had yet to invest in IaaS, with only 14 percent using this type of cloud computing services for at least part of their IT systems.The study is based on telephone interviews with staff in charge of ICT resources across more than 3,500 Frenc

German government puts forward draft law on right to repair

The German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV) has put forward a draft law on the right to repair.  It grants consumers a new right to repair for devices including smartphones, washing machines and refrigerators. Manufacturers will be obligated to repair such products for several years at a reasonable price.

The Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) has announced a ban on airtime and data bundle advances for people under 18 years old, effective from 01 April. The regulatory measure was announced by chief compliance and legal officer Advocate Thato Poonya in Maseru. It aims to protect minors from accumulating debt-related risks and to promote financial responsibility. The restriction will be enforced through enhanced SIM card registration systems that use national identification documents to verify users' ages

Spanish rural telecommunications provider Avatel said it has ended merger negotiations with Catalan MVNO Parlem nearly a year after starting the consolidation process. Avatel, Spain's fifth largest fibre-optic operator, had previously agreed to acquire 50.01 percent of Parlem's shares in exchange for the former's business in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Levante region, pending due diligence.

Turkcell Superonline has introduced its UltraFibre service with internet speeds of up to 10 Gbps for residential customers in Turkey. Turkcell claims this is the first time 10 Gbps speeds have been made available to homes in the country, exceeding previously available top speeds of 1000 Mbps. Turkcell now offers speeds of 2 Gbps, 5 Gbps, and 10 Gbps.

Play, Orange Poland launch 5G on 3.5 GHz band in National Stadium

Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, announced that it launched 5G services on the 3,500 MHz band in the National Stadium in Warsaw. The new infrastructure has been deployed on the basis of an active DAS. The operator said it plans to raise the capacity of its infrastructure there soon. Orange Poland said that it has installed 5G infrastructure working on the C band in the National Stadium, too.

Rostelecom expands fibre network in Tver region

Russian national operator Rostelecom announced it has covered with its fibre-optic broadband network more than 2,000 households in the Tver region, including more than 250 households in the city of Tver. The total fixed internet subscriber base of the operator on fibre-optic networks numbered 14.1 million at year-end, up from 13.0 million in 2024. The residential base rose by 1 million, to 12.8 million.

Atem-Polska deploys broadband network in Lelis municipality

Polish company Atem-Polska has started deployment of a fibre-optic network in the Lelis municipality in the Masuria region. The project is funded from the National Recovery and Resilience Programme, and the work should be completed by the end of this year. More than 27 percent of households aren't covered with fixed broadband networks in the municipality, and 606 households are planned to be covered under this project.

Dutch court bans Grok AI-generated nude images

X and its AI tool Grok are banned from creating and distributing in the Netherlands images of people being undressed and other unauthorised nude images, following an interim order from a court in Amsterdam. Any violations of the order will be subject to fines of EUR 100,000 per day, up to a maximum EUR 10 million. In addition, Grok may not be offered over X as long as the AI bot does not comply with the court order.

Spanish operator Cellnex Telecom, Europe's largest mobile towers company, announced that it will ask shareholders at its 30 April AGM to approve a shift to annual director re-elections, replacing the current three-year cycle, in an overhaul of its corporate governance structure. The company said the change will align Cellnex with practices in major international markets and allow for greater accountability and flexibility in board oversight.

Orange Cote d'Ivoire has launched 'Ma Box Internet', a mobile app for its internet customers. Hamadou Ouattara, deputy director in charge of fixed internet, said the company has designed the mobile solution to allow fibre subscribers to manage their connection autonomously through the Max It platform.
