Telia Estonia blocks 20 mln phishing calls in 2025

Telia Estonia said it managed to block 20 million phishing calls in 2025 altogether. More than 300,000 of its subscribers used roaming services abroad last year. Mobile data use abroad was most active by its customers in Latvia, Finland, Lithuania, Sweden and Germany.

Deutsche Telekom poaches COO for healthcare unit from Philips

Deutsche Telekom has appointed Uwe Heckert for the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer in its Healthcare unit, effective on 16 January. Heckert joins Telekom from Philips, where he​ was Chair of the Management Board for the DACH region, while simultaneously leading the Healthcare Informatics business for Europe. In his new role, he will report to Gottfried Ludewig, who leads Deutsche Telekom's healthcare business and is also responsible for public sector clients.

In 2025, Brazil's "Do Not Disturb" platform saw 1.7 million new sign-ups, bringing its total to 14.2 million phone numbers registered to block unwanted telemarketing calls from telecom companies and payroll loan offers. Vodafone Czech Republic has the fastest fixed broadband speed in the country in 2025, according to data collected by nPerf. The operator demonstrated downloads at 193.2 Mbps and uploads at 60.1 Mbps. T-Mobile Poland had the fastest mobile internet in the country in 2025, according to a study from nPerf. The operator demonstrated downloads at 119.2 Mbps and uploads at 15.4 Mbps. Orange Poland followed with downloads at 112.5 Mbps and uploads at 15.4 Mbps. The indicators of Play, controlled by Iliad, amounted to 73.7 Mbps and 15.3 Mbps, respectively. Polkomtel, trading under the Plus brand, followed with downloads at 42.5 Mbps and uploads at 9.4 Mbps.

Slovak Telekom had the fastest mobile internet in the country in 2025, according to a study from nPerf. The operator demonstrated downloads at 159.5 Mbps and uploads at 42.2 Mbps. O2 Slovakia followed with downloads at 93.9 Mbps and uploads at 22.9 Mbps. Orange Poland sells Oppo Reno 15 5G

Orange Poland said that it has started selling the smartphone Oppo Reno 15 5G in its shops. It has set the price of the device at PLN 2,799 without a subscription contract. The operator is offering PLN 200 cashback to customers buying the phone by 15 February.

Sweden-based infrastructure vendor Eltel has announced a contract to provide construction services to Telenor Towers in Norway. The contract concerns auxiliary engineering and building installation work. It is worth an estimated NOK 30 million to NOK 50 million and runs for two years from February 2026, with three possible option years. The agreement continues Eltel's existing cooperation with Telenor Towers, which covers Telenor Infra Norway, Telenor Tower Sweden and DNA Tower Finland

Claro Peru (America Movil) said its 5G network is already available in nearly 100 districts around a month after it activated the service. Clavister wins SEK 280 mln Norwegian Armed Forces tactical core communication network contract

Swedish cybersecurity company Clavister said it has won a contract from the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA or Forsvarsmateriell) to develop a tactical core network system (TCNS) for the Norwegian Armed Forces (Forsvaret). The contract is worth approximately SEK 280 million with options valued at an another SEK 15 million or so. Some SEK 250 million relates to developing the TCNS, based on Clavister's proprietary networking and security software, and the other SEK 30 million to a subsequent support

Global spending on AI is expected to grow by 44 percent year-on-year to reach USD 2.52 trillion in 2026, from USD 1.65 trillion in 2025, according to new research from Gartner. This total is then forecast to rise further to USD 3.34 trillion in 2027. AI infrastructure spend will grow to USD 1.37 trillion in 2026 and USD 1.75 trillion in 2027, from USD 964.96 billion in 2025; with AI services spending reaching USD 588.64 billion in 2026 and USD 761.04 billion in 2027, up from USD 439.44 billion in 2025.

Moroccan govt agrees renewal of satellite services licences

Morocco's government has given the green light to the renewal of four VSAT licences held by Maroc Telecom, Wana Corporate (which trades as Inwi), Green Development and Planning Company, and Gulfsat Maghreb. A government spokesperson confirmed to the Maghreb Arabe Presse agency that these decisions were approved by decree alongside five renewals for 3RP (shared resource radio network) and GMPCS (Global Mobile Personal Communication System) licences.
