HGC launches CNX+ gateway for global carriers entering Hong Kong

Hong Kong operator HGC Global Communications has launched Carrier Network Extension Plus (CNX+), a one-stop shop service designed to help global carriers, OTT providers, ISPs, and cloud providers to enter the Hong Kong market. HGC reports that its CNX+ services suite delivers management capabilities, including the establishment of virtual points of presence (vPoP), customized network service options, and operational support.

Creditors to take control of UK rural fibre altnet Gigaclear - report

UK rural broadband provider Gigaclear is set to be taken over by its creditors after attempts to sell the heavily indebted company failed to attract interest from potential suitors, reports the Financial Times. According to unnamed sources familiar with the plans, creditors will run the company before reattempting to find a buyer. Gigaclear's creditors include Lloyds, NatWest and the UK's National Wealth Fund.

The UK government is partnering with 13 businesses/organisations to help boost cyber security and encourage the adoption of the 'Software Security Code of Practice'. Orange Poland starts seasonal promos on Plan XS, fibre broadband

Orange Poland started new seasonal promotions. Customers connecting to the Plan XS postpaid tariff are offered the Motorola Moto G 35 5G smartphone with 8/128 GB, Xiaomi Redmi 15C 5G with 4/128 GB or Honor 400 Smart 5G with 4/128 GB for PLN 14 monthly under a 36-month installment contract. New customers connecting to fixed broadband services over fibre at 2 Gbps to 8 Gbps and a pay-TV package, including 209 channels, are offered free services for six months.

Atman introduces 14-day price lock offer for dedicated servers

Polish data centre and cloud service provider Atman said that it has introduced a 14-day price-lock offer to customers connecting to its new generation dedicated servers. The offer comes amid the rapid increase in prices for key server components, especially RAM and SSD/NVMe storage. According to the company, the majority of market players hold prices for just one or two days.

M.Video reports jump in smartphone trade-ins in 2025

The number of smartphones returned under the trade-in programme at M.Video jumped by 292 percent in 2025, according to the Russian retailer. The number is based on data from its M.Master unit handling device repairs. Devices from Apple formed around 37 percent of all smartphones returned under the trade-in programme. Smartphones from Samsung followed with approximately 30 percent, and Xiaomi totaled around 15 percent.

T-Mobile Poland start promo with gas station chain PB

T-Mobile Poland introduced a joint promotion with the gas station chain PB. Customers using the loyalty programme Magenta Moments from the operator receive discounts in PB gas stations using their Magenta points. This amounts to PLN 0.40 off each litre of fuel, plus rebates on car washes and Wild Bean Cafe products. The promotion is valid until 03 March.

Orange CFO steps down from Orange Poland supervisory board

Orange Poland announced that Laurent Martinez has resigned as a member of the supervisory board of the company, effective 30 January. Martinez, the CFO at parent company Orange SA, sat on the supervisory board at Orange Poland since 2023. At the next board meeting in February Orange will propose Usman Javaid as his replacement on the supervisory board. He is chief product and marketing officer at Orange Business.

French telecom service revenues fall over 2% in Q3 as mobile ARPU continues to decline

French telecom service revenues remained on a downward trend in the three months to September 2025, following a second consecutive quarter of negative growth in both the fixed and mobile segments. According to telecom regulator Arcep, third-quarter service revenues fell 2.3 percent year-on-year to EUR 8.17 billion, after a 1.9 percent drop in the previous three‑month period. Azeri operator Bakcell, in partnership with the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation, has launched a new scholarship programme designed to foster innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital skill development among young people. The scheme was officially introduced with the signing of a Statement of Understanding on Partnership between Klaus Mueller, CEO of Bakcell, and Yusif Valiyev, acting executive director of the foundation.

LMT launches smart transport monitoring system in Gulbene

Latvian operator LMT said it has installed a smart transport monitoring system in the town of Gulbene. The equipment has been installed at two intersections and will operate in testing mode for three months. The LMT Group's smart transport monitoring systems operate in several Latvian cities, namely Riga, Liepaja, Jurmala, Salaspils, and in the city of Graz in Austria.

UZBEKISTAN 19 JAN

Mobiuz upgrades mobile network in Samarkand region

Uzbekistan operator Mobiuz said it has completed the upgrade of its mobile network in the Samarkand region, updating 51 base stations under the project. Mobiuz also deployed seven new mobile base stations in the Andijan region earlier this month and upgraded two existing base stations there. Work was carried out in the city of Andijan, as well as in the municipalities of Baliqchi, Buloqboshi, Jalalkuduk, Pakhtaabod, Xojaobod and Asaka.

SWITZERLAND 19 JAN

NorthC to build sixth data centre in Switzerland

NorthC Group said it will start building its sixth data centre in Switzerland, in Geneva, in Q1 this year. The company will construct the new facility in its 'The Hive' technology campus. The data centre, with a total IT capacity of 4.5 MW, will operate with total floor space of 5,400 square metres. Construction works are due to be completed by Q2 2028.

LATVIA 19 JAN

Tele2 Latvia plans capital expenditure of EUR 22 mln in 2026

Tele2 Latvia said it is planning capital expenditure of EUR 22 million this year. The lion's share of the investment will be allocated for expansion of the 5G network and upgrade of the LTE network. The operator plans to deploy 35 new 5G base stations this year and 135 existing base stations will be upgraded to 5G. In this way, Tele2 Latvia will run more than 1,250 5G base stations by the end of this year.

Ucom launches fixed broadband network in Zovuni

Armenian operator Ucom said it has deployed a fixed broadband network in the village of Zovuni in the Kotayk municipality, making internet and pay-TV services available there. MTS reports 3% drop in spam calls in 2025

MTS said that the amount of spam calls on its network dropped by 3 percent year-on-year in Russia in 2025. The decline is related to the upgrade of AI tools, to blocking of spam calls by the security service Guard, and to new laws to counter spam. MTS' Guard service blocked 3.17 billion spam calls in 2025.

The Radboud University announced it will start offering the Fairphone to employees from February as the default option for their work phone.
