Telenor agrees to buy Enivest with 28,000 fibre customers in deal worth NOK 2.5 bln

Telenor said it has agreed to acquire Enivest, a fibre operator in Western Norway, in a transaction valued at NOK 2.5 billion. The acquisition includes Enivest's fibre network and approximately 28,000 customers, as well as a 34 percent stake in Ardalsnett, which has around 3,000 customers. Telenor CEO Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer said Enivest is a well-run company with a strong local presence and fits well with Telenor's long-term strategy.

Community Fibre, Hyperoptic backers seeking buyers - report

Private equity companies KKR and Warburg Pincus are examining potential sales of their UK fibre broadband businesses, reports the Financial Times. According to unnamed sources familiar with the matter, Warburg has appointed bankers and made approaches to potential buyers for London-based altnet Community Fibre, which has around 450,000 customers. Some of the sources also said KKR has approached potential suitors for Hyperoptic, which has over 400,000 customers.

Telefonica Germany has expanded its 5G network in Oederan, Bad Sackingen, and Selscheid. In Bad Sackingen, and Selscheid the company has built a new 5G mobile network site, while in Oederan it has put a new site into operation. Telefonica Germany currency manages a network running on 29,000 mobile sites, with 5G reaches around 99 percent of the population.

Amazon seeks Kenyan approval for satellite earth station

Amazon has formally applied for regulatory approval to build and operate its first African satellite ground station in Kenya. The application was submitted by local subsidiary Amazon Kuiper Kenya to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and seeks a fifteen-year International Gateway Operator licence. According to a Kenya Gazette notice published by the CA,  it has applied for a Network Facilities Provider (NFP) Tier 2 licence, the same category currently used by Starlink in Kenya.

Dutch network operator Glaspoort expects to exceed one million fibre connections by the end of 2026, the company announced in a press release marking its fifth anniversary. Japanese cable operator J:Com will broadcast more than 300 games from 15 regional qualifying tournaments for Japan's National High School Baseball Championship across its regional channels this summer. The operator said coverage will begin on 4 July across its regional J Channel networks and will include tournaments in South Hokkaido, Miyagi, Ibaraki, Chiba, Saitama, East and West Tokyo, Kanagawa, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Yamaguchi, Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Oita.

US-based AI infrastructure company Crusoe said it has secured contracts covering 4.9 GW of AI infrastructure capacity across its data centre developments and Crusoe Cloud platform. The company said its broader development pipeline, including contracted projects, sites under active tenant negotiations and locations in advanced stages of development, now exceeds 40 GW. Crusoe said the contracted capacity spans five AI data centre campuses in the United States that are being developed for hyperscale customers.

The contract has been structured as a group-wide agreement, allowing deployment across LG Group affiliates.

Akita Offshore Wind Power and KDDI SmartDrone have completed a trial of a remotely operated drone inspection system for offshore wind turbines, using a vehicle-mounted drone port to conduct blade inspections without requiring operators to travel to launch sites. The demonstration took place at offshore wind facilities operated by Akita Offshore Wind Power in the waters off Noshiro Port and Akita Port. Four wind turbines were inspected during the trial.

ACMA consults on 2.5 GHz changes to support 5G and advanced antenna systems

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has launched a consultation on proposed changes to the technical framework governing spectrum licences in the 2.5 GHz band, with the aim of better supporting 5G deployments and advanced antenna systems (AAS). The regulator said the 2.5 GHz band is a key spectrum band for wireless broadband services, but the current framework, which was originally developed in 2013, is not optimised for newer technologies like 5G and AAS.
