Finnish transport and communications agency Traficom said printed nautical charts will retain a significant role in navigation despite rapid digitisation, especially in terms of contingency preparations, supply security training and situational awareness. Cybersecurity risks associated with digital navigation and disruptions in GNSS systems highlight the need for independent back-up systems, it said.

Brazilian regional fixed broadband operator Ligga Telecomunicacoes reported a net loss of BRL 142.5 million in 2025, a substantial increase from the BRL 15.8 million loss in 2024. Net operating revenue grew by 7 percent to BRL 626.1 million. However, operating profit dropped by 73 percent to BRL 46.3 million, and gross profit fell by 14 percent.

Swedish telecoms and digital regulators PTS and Digg to merge as Digitisation Authority

The regulator created by merging Sweden's postal service and telecoms regulator PTS with digital governance agency Digg on 01 January 2027 will be called the Digitisation Authority (Digitaliseringsmyndigheten), PTS said. When the new watchdog starts up, operations will continue at their existing locations initially. Sweden's 2G and 3G network shutdowns in December 2025 have been successful, according to an interim report from telecoms regulator PTS. There were no major incidents, but some mobile phones could not make phone calls to 112 except by emergency roaming, even 4G-compatible handsets and those able to make regular voice calls. New Apple iOS feature restricts precision location data shared with operators

Apple launched a new iPhone and iPad setting that obscures the exact location of devices connected to cellular networks. The "Limited precise location" feature is designed to apply limits on location data shared with cellular carriers, often collected in the process of tracking the user's connection to local cell towers. When activated, it configures the Apple device to withhold certain data from the network, for example only revealing the neighbourhood of its location rather than a specific street address.

Telia Norway said it will start providing television and video streaming services to Modum Kabel-TV, based in the town of Modum in the county of Buskerud. Their agreement will make Telia's TV and Telia Play streaming available to the local operator's 7,500 or so customers in Modum, Sigdal, Kroedsherad, Nakkerud and Tyristrand. Africell deploys AI on DRC network

Africell is integrating artificial intelligence across its operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to optimise network efficiency, eliminate fraud and accelerate revenue generation, ITWeb reported. Latin America was the region most affected by ransomware attacks worldwide in 2025, with 8.13 percent of organisations impacted, according to a report by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky. Brazilian regional broadband operator Alares reported a net loss of BRL 33.5 million in the first quarter of 2026, a 10 percent improvement year-over-year. Net revenue increased by 11.4 percent to BRL 248.2 million, adjusted EBITDA rose by 19.8 percent to BRL 117.1 million, and the EBITDA margin expanded by 3.3 percentage points to 47.2 percent.
