Openreach warns over 500,000 businesses still relying on PSTN network

Openreach is warning that that over 500,000 UK businesses have still not migrated to digital IP services, less than 12 months before the PSTN network is switched-off permanently by end-January 2027. With Openreach set to double prices for legacy phone services by October 2026, it is calling on businesses to test and migrate services now, or risk failing equipment and loss of service.

Austria's Magenta Telekom has doubled the top speed on its cable network in Vienna to 2 Gbps. The operator held an event with city council members at its head office to mark the milestone. Around 70 businesses are already using the faster connections, it said.

Vodafone Ireland adds 16,000 contract mobile customers in Q3

Vodafone Ireland's service revenue reached EUR 222 million in the three months to 31 December 2024 (Q3 FY26), compared to EUR 221 million in Q2 and EUR 216 million in the year-earlier third quarter. It ended Q3 with a total of 2.13 million mobile customers, compared to 2.15 million in the year-earlier quarter, with contract customers accounting for 67.4 percent.

ProSiebenSat.1 has expanded its agreement with Deutsche Telekom on video distribution, adding distribution of its paid streaming service Joyn Plus+. Telekom customers can already book a Joyn Plus+ subscription directly through Telekom since the start of this year, with a small discount for a 12-month contract.

Play deploys 54 new base stations in January

Polish operator Play, controlled by Iliad, deployed 54 new base stations across the country in January. The operator said it ran a total of 13,229 base stations at the end of January. The majority of new base stations were built in Central Poland, and several stations were also launched in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan.

Swiss operator Sunrise will cut 147 jobs instead of up to 190 as initially planned, as part of its latest corporate reorganisation. The reduction in the planned redundancies comes at the end of a consultation process with employee representatives and the Syndicom trade union. The company is restructuring the business to better define responsibilities with fewer hierarchical levels, and consolidating overlapping functions.

Polish data centre capacity exceeds 200 MW

The whole capacity of Polish data centres has exceeded 200 MW, according to a study from the Polish Data Center Association (PLDCA). The capacity has doubled in the past three years and is expected to grow further to 600 MW by 2030. Around 74 percent of Polish data centre capacity is around Warsaw, where 30 major data centres out of the 45 across the country are located.

Film and high-end TV production spend in the UK reached GBP 6.8 billion in 2025, up 22 percent from 2024, according to the latest data from the British Film Institute (BFI). MoMo Payment Service Bank (MoMo PSB), the financial subsidiary of MTN Nigeria, has announced an agreement with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). MoMo PSB will offer companies registered with access to digital services such as apps, POS, USSD, partner portals and other tailored platforms. NBI connects over 164,000 premises to rural fibre network

National Broadband Ireland (NBI) has now connected over 164,000 premises across Ireland as the National Broadband Plan (NBP) rural network roll-out enters its final phase. The last quarterly update for the contract year to 31 January 2026 shows that all surveying and design work is now complete, with 82 percent of the entire NBP network built and available for connection. BCE revenue down 0.3 percent to CAD 6.40 billion in Q4 2025

BCE has reported total operating revenue of CAD 6.40 billion for Q4 2025, down 0.3 percent from CAD 6.42 billion a year earlier; with full-year revenue up 0.2 percent to CAD 24.47 billion, from CAD 24.41 billion in 2024. The quarterly drop in revenue was the result of a 15 percent fall in product revenues to CAD 965 million, offset partially by service revenue growth of 2.9 percent to CAD 5.44 billion.

MTN Group plans fintech start-up acquisitions

MTN Group is looking out for fintech start-ups that it could integrate into its own platform, its CEO Ralph Mupita told the portal Semafor. It is seeking businesses involved in payments, lending and remittances.
