3 UK adds 1.04 million mobile customers in 12 months

3 UK added over 1.04 million customers in the 12 months to 30 September, including 301,000 in the last quarter alone, to reach a total of 8.8 million. This growth is customers, driven by a focus on smartphones, is being supported by a nationwide network upgrade programme. The operator is deploying DC-HSDPA technology and increasing the speed of its backhaul to create an Ultrafast network experience. This new Ultrafast network will reach over half of the UK population by end-2012, rising to over 80 percent by April 2013. It currently covers 39 percent of the population, with coverage focused on 50 of the UK's biggest cities and towns. 3 UK will add further capacity to its Ultrafast network in 2013 by deploying LTE technology.
