Alcatel-Lucent plans to cut 1,650-1,800 jobs in Europe this year, French union CFE-CGC reported after a meeting of the company's European works council. The main countries affected will be Belgium with 250-300 jobs cut, France with a loss of 450 positions, Germany with 150-200 jobs lost, Italy with 450-500 positions cut, Spain with a loss of 100 posts and the UK and Ireland with 150 fewer jobs, AFP reported. The union noted that not all will be forced redundancies, as some staff may be moved to other roles at the company or take over the work of sub-contractors.
