Appointment of PTA chairman challenged in High Court

Wednesday 19 February 2014 | 23:52 CET | News
The appointment of the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is being challenged in the Islamabad High Court, The Nation reports. Nasim Arshad Rana, who was a candidate for position of chairman of the PTA, lodged a petition to challenge the appointment, arguing that a chairman cannot be appointed to the regulator without appointing the required members of the PTA. He also argues the appointment is against the directions of the Supreme Court, which had instructed that heads of semi-government organisations should be appointed through a competent commission.
