NEC, Renesas postpone signing merger deal

Mail Article
NEC Electronics and Renesas Technology have postponed signing an agreement for a merger. In April, NEC Electronics started talks with Renesas, the semiconductor joint venture of Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric. The combination is expected to create the world's third-largest semiconductor maker, with annual sales of JPY 1.64 trillion. However, the companies have now pushed back the deadline for signing the contract for the merger as key shareholders have not yet reached an agreement on certain matters, such as cost burdens for financial restructuring. The contract was supposed to have been signed by end-July with the actual merger to take place in April 2010.
