Bouygues Telecom sales up 3% to EUR 1.34 bln in Q3

French mobile and broadband operator Bouygues Telecom reported revenues up 3 percent to EUR 1.34 billion in the third quarter, compared to EUR 1.3 billion in the year-earlier period. The company added 172,000 mobile customers in the latest quarter, compared to 9,000 net adds in the third quarter of last year. At the end of September, Bouygues had 10.07 million mobile customers, including 7.67 million on postpaid contracts. The operator passed the milestone of selling over 200,000 iPhones on 23 September. Bouygues also confirmed a successful start to its fixed-line business with 103,000 net subscriptions in the third quarter. The installed base of Bbox routers, or number of customers billed, rose by 89,000 in the quarter to reach a total of 173,000. Earnings results are due to be released on 1 December.

Dutch cable operators Casema, Multikabel and Essent Kabelcom have merged into Ziggo, which was launched in April 2008. Ziggo provides analogue & digital TV, broadband and telephony services to 3.2 million households and is owned by private equity investors Cinven and Warburg Pincus. In May 2009, Ziggo officially opened its new headquarters in Utrecht. During 2009, Ziggo introduced very high speed broadband services based on the Eurodocsis 3.0 standard and interactive TV services including video on demand. The operator is the largest cable operator of the Netherlands with more than 4 million homes passed and 3.2 million analogue TV customers. On the broadband and VoIP markets, Ziggo is number two behind former incumbent KPN.
