Assurance Wireless lowers price for adding minutes

Thursday 4 February 2010 | 10:25 CET | News
Assurance Wireless, Virgin Mobile USA's mobile phone service for low-income households, is reducing the cost of adding minutes to its Lifeline service. The service provides a free handset and 200 minutes of free mobile local and long-distance calling within the US every month. Qualifying subscribers in New York, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, will now pay USD 0.10 for each additional domestic minute instead of 0.20 per additional minute after exceeding the 200 minutes included with the plan. Assurance Wireless's additional minutes are only available on a prepaid basis. Customers eligible for Assurance Wireless include those eligible for or receiving Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) or Section 8, Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) or the National School Lunch Program's Free Lunch Program. Customers may also qualify based on household income.
