Brazil tops 197 million mobile users in November

The number of mobile telephony users in Brazil reached 197.53 million in November, an increase of 1.59 million on the previous month, according to data released by market regulator Anatel. The mobile user base grew by 16.36 percent year-on-year. Currently, there are 101.96 mobile phones per hundred inhabitants in Brazil. Sao Paulo is the leader in number of lines, with 49.3 million, and a density of 119 percent. Maranhao has the lowest penetration, with only 58 mobile users per 100 inhabitants. Of the total lines, 82.21 percent are prepaid. Vivo was market leader in November with 58.85 million users, corresponding to a 29.8 percent market share. Claro ranks second with 50.46 million customers and a share of 25.55 percent, while TIM comes third with a market share of 24.91 percent and a total of 49.20 million subscribers. Oi had 38.28 million customers, representing 19.38 percent of all mobile users in the country.
