Broadband value better in Australia than New Zealand - study

Although New Zealand internet users are getting more data in their internet plans compared to a year earlier, internet users in Australia are still way ahead when it comes to value for money, BusinessDay writes citing research by Market Clarity that studied fixed-line broadband plans from five New Zealand and six Australian providers. Between 2010 and 2011, the median internet price in Australia went down from AUD 1.12 per GB to 0.37 per GB. Meanwhile in New Zealand, prices dropped from AUD 4.60 per GB to 2.17 per GB. Furthermore, the largest monthly data allowance in New Zealand was 120 GB in 2010 while Australia has been offering similar-sized plans since 2006. This year an unlimited plan has been launched in New Zealand to rival Australia's maximum data allowance of 1.1 terabytes. New Zealand customers of budget plans still fare poorly compared to Australian internet users. In Australia a customer can get a 20 GB plan for AUD 29.99 a month while a New Zealand customer pays AUD 20 per month for 1 GB.
