BT appoints Selley as new Openreach CEO
BT has announced the appointment of Clive Selley as the new CEO of Openreach. He will take up this post in Q1 2016 to replace Joe Garner, who is to become CEO of Nationwide Building Society. Selley is currently CEO of BT Technology, Service and Operations (BT TSO), as well as Group Chief Information Officer. He also chairs BT's cyber security council. His successor at BT TSO will be announced in due course.

BT Group CEO Gavin Patterson has written to all 650 UK MPs warning that investment will drop if BT Openreach is broken up, forcing homes to wait longer for broadband access, reports The Telegraph. New build homes to get fibre broadband connectivity

The UK Government has reached an agreement with Openreach and the Home Builders Federation (HBF) to provide new build properties with superfast broadband connectivity. The agreement will see fibre based broadband offered to all new developments either for free or as part of a co-funded initiative. Despite GBP 1.7 billion of taxpayers' money being used to subsidise the construction of UK high-speed broadband, there are still 5.7 million people who cannot access the internet at the minimum 10 Mbps speed required by Ofcom, according to a new report from MPs. BT appoints new technology, service, operations CEO

BT Group has announced the appointment of Howard Watson as the CEO of BT Technology, Service and Operations (BT TSO) and Group Chief Information Officer. Watson is currently BT Chief Architect and MD Global IT Platforms, and will replace Clive Selley, who is taking over as CEO of Openreach. BT TSO manages the company's internal and external platforms, including TV, Mobile and Conferencing, as well as BT's R&D unit at Adastral Park, Suffolk. BT TSO employs 12,000 staff and 8,000 contractors worldwide.

BT to hire 1,000 new customer service advisors

BT is creating 1,000 permanent jobs in the UK as it aims to answer more than 80 percent of BT Consumer customers' calls from within the UK by end-2016. The extra contact centre jobs will be added by April 2017. The first place to benefit will be Swansea, where the company will recruit an additional 100 customers service roles to add to the 50 extra advisors recently hired at the site. The remainder will be spread across the UK at other existing BT call centres.

BT Openreach publishes new wholesale prices

BT Openreach has published new prices for local loop unbundling and wholesale line rental (WLR) which come into effect on 1 April. The price changes were being made to comply with year 3 of Ofcom's fixed access market review charge control. The price of almost all services will come down, with the notable exception of WLR line transfer, which will rise to GBP 8.43 from GBP 6.28. BT to pull back from customer-facing role for Openreach

BT will pull back from proposals to allow its Openreach wholesale subsidiary to deal directly with consumers about complaints, faults and delays, after having consulted with ISPs that use the national network, the Financial Times reports. The proposal, originally part of an "Openreach Charter" published by BT in September, would have required the approval of regulator Ofcom. Openreach deploys Adva Carrier Ethernet platform

BT Group subsidiary Openreach has deployed the FSP 150 Carrier Ethernet demarcation and aggregation platform from Adva Optical Networking as the foundation of its new EAD 10G service. The new point-to-point 10 Gbps Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) service will provide customers with 10-times the bandwidth just over twice the price of the existing 1 Gbps product. Openreach has deployed the Adva technology in response to rising demand for bandwidth from enterprise customers across the UK.
