China begins 700 MHz TD-LTE trial

China has begun a 700 MHz TD-LTE trial in a small city in Eastern China. The 700 MHz band is currently used for analogue terrestrial television broadcasts, but around 100 MHz of the spectrum is expected to become available once TV broadcasts have switched to digital technology, the Digitimes reports. Local media pointed out that China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is in charge of TD-LTE technology, while the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) is responsible for the 700 MHz spectrum.
