Taiwanese carrier Chunghwa Telecom plans to double the number of wireless access spots to 20,000 by the end of this year as the rollout of Wi-Fi hotspots is progressing faster than expected. Chunghwa has rolled out 10,000 hotspots so far, more than the previously forecast 6,000, Central News Agency reports citing spokesperson Shih Mu-piao. The company will also roll out 1,100 new base stations this year to expand its 3G network. Chunghwa has budgeted TWD 5 billion for capital expenditure in 2011, which includes TWD 3 billion of 3G investments.
