Dutch liberals make own proposal for net neutrality

The Dutch liberal party VVD has introduced its own proposal for net neutrality. The legislation would prohibit blocking of websites by telecom operators, which MP Afke Schaart said is the rule in countries such as North Korea or Iran. The party does not plan to forbid price differentiation by operators. "Free internet doesn't exist. It's logical that telecom companies want to differentiate their services provided. If you want faster internet, or need more bandwidth, it's clear that you pay more," he said. "The alternative is that the bill for a relatively small group of heavy users is laid on the mass market." As long as customers can choose from different packages, there is no problem. Schaart also does not want to see the Netherlands on its own in Europe with a different policy.
