Dutch tablet ownership doubles in 6 months - survey

The number of Dutch households with a tablet computer has doubled in the past half year, to around 8 percent of the total, according to Telecompaper's consumer panel. Apple is market leader, followed by Samsung and Archos. The first tablet users are considered innovators and early adopters; they are more often men, younger than people without a tablet, higher educated and with a high income. The tablet is used an average eight hours per week, and around 60 percent of use is in the home. Women appear to use tablets more often than men to play games, while men use the devices more often for social networking. The three mobile operators Vodafone, T-Mobile and KPN have roughly equal shares of tablet users with a paid internet subscription. However, a majority of tablet users do not have a broadband subscription for the device. If they do sign up for mobile internet, they are more likely to take a prepaid plan than laptop or PC users. The tablet users also spend just over EUR 2 per month on applications.
