KPN’s German subsidiary E-Plus reports total revenues of EUR 802 million for the second quarter of this year, growing by 7.5 percent year-on-year. The service revenues dropped by 0.2 percent year-on-year to EUR 768 million, excluding the MTA decrease of December 2010, the service revenues grew by 7.5 percent. The growth was driven by high postpaid net additions due to the successful Base brand and wholesale, the regional focus and strong captive channel performance. E-Plus’s Q2 EBITDA decreased by EUR 2.9 percent year-on-year to EUR 335 million, while the margin improved to 41.8 percent. The share of data in the total service revenues improved from 28 percent in the second quarter of 2010 to 35 percent in the second quarter of this year, stable compared with the first quarter. The main brand of the operator Mein Base sees 40 percent of new customers selecting a data package. E-Plus’customer base ended June of this year with 21.5 million customers growing by 2.7 percent during quarter with 558,000 net additions including 102,000 postpaid customers. Year-on-year the growth amounted to 9.9 percent. The postpaid customer base grew by 7 percent year-on-year to 7.29 million and the prepaid customer base improved by 11.5 percent to 14.25 million on 30 June.
The ARPU for the second quarter decreased by 7.7 percent year-on-year to EUR 12, stable compared with the first quarter. The postpaid ARPU dropped 8 percent to EUR 23 and the prepaid ARPU stabilized at EUR 6. At the same time, the customer acquisition and retention costs grew by 20.5 percent year-on-year to EUR 53 driven by a 14.2 percent growth in postpaid SAC/SRC to EUR 129, while prepaid stayed stable at EUR 15. In Germany, the accelerated roll-out of its high speed mobile data network continued and currently covers more than 75 percent of E-Plus’ subscribers (up to 21 Mbps) as site upgrades reach over 15 per day. In the second quarter, E-Plus continued its marketing efforts, thereby successfully improving awareness of the Base brand and its new propositions. E-Plus is actively marketing the Base Lutea and the Base tablet, both from ZTE, to make mobile data available to the mass market.
