Ecuador approves new MVNO regulation
Ecuador's telecoms watchdog Conatel has introduced new regulations to boost the entry of MVNOs in the local mobile telephony market. Under the new regulations, the country's National Telecommunications Secretariat (Senatel) will issue the permits for the provision of mobile telephony services through a MVNO scheme. The new MVNO regulations includes different issues such as tariffs, interconnections rates and licenses, among others. The government of Ecuador believes that the entry of new MVNO will foster competition in the mobile telephony market. Current mobile operators include Claro, Movistar and state-run telco CNT. Ecuador ended April with 17.89 million active lines in the mobile telephony segment.
